For Styles with Platforms
A painstaking and time-consuming process is undertaken to give our customers the best possible fit.
From large blocks of high density natural cork we cut blanks for each individual order. A pattern for both the width and height having been previously prepared, the blank is then routed to shape. The sides of the platform are tapered to a visually attractive angle. These blanks are then sanded to produce the smooth surface required for the fitting of the finely laminated finishing leather.
The upper surface of the platform is then incurved on a grinding wheel and finished to produce a perfect mate with the uppers. Once this seamless fit is obtained the leather finish is bonded to the cork platform. The edge of the leather is skived and roughed to improve the adhesion when bonded.
The sole for a platform boot is made using the same techniques as those for our regular boots although the sole for a platform boot will be much longer for its size to cover the full length of the sole and heel.
